What have you been putting off doing? Why?

Maybe it isn’t procrastination at all, maybe it’s gestation; perhaps I’ve been waiting for the ground inside me to turn soft and loamy; for what once felt like obligation can become devotion again, and this I know;

If I have been putting off anything,I have been delaying the act of gathering; not the writing itself, which keeps pouring, but the bringing together of what’s already written; its the quiet editorial labor of claiming the body of work I have already birthed over twenty years now;

Perhaps I sense the gathering is a kind of ending, that by calling it complete, I’ll lose the beating heart of it, or maybe I simply know that once I say “Here it is,” I will be standing at the threshold between privacy and offering.
