It steadies my nerves.
Walking out into morning light.
The Earth is solid, the ground reliable.
Nothing is forced.
Nature is not trying to impress.

She simply does,
showering desert roadsides
with sunflowers,
carpeting grasses in city parks
with drifting pinks and whites
of cherry blossoms.

The world is loud, chaotic —

humans barking like sea lions,
clambering over each other,
vying for attention.

It is a very noisy place,
inside our homes,
inside our heads.

I must rise, and early.
To capture that golden light,
to convey it to the soles
of my feet, granting me a lightness of step
so that I might greet the day
as an equal.
