It seems days roll into nights too vast for winking
stars and spinning galaxies, while the wind blows as ever
and the ocean flows its indigo rhythms as time
remains this human folly we cannot bend or break;
still in one blink, gardens are created, another house
becomes home, and other urges nudge me into perceiving
an expansiveness I never thought possible in our known
physical universe;

Meanwhile, this collection of blood and bones I thought
mine alone seems a ponderous burden in these rapidly morphing
times, with changing perceptions of what is, what was, making room
for creations sprouting from seeds defying any rich soil
in which they can be nurtured;

The pigs of late — wantonly rototilling a landscape
I thought consummated — seem not vandals but messengers,
tusks of reminder that no consecration is final,
no Eden ever finished, for even the ground itself
possesses hungers, and will not let me settle
into permanence without first tearing loose my illusions
of completion until the ground rumbles, lurches, splits
apart raggedly, breaking rank, no longer formed, patterns
unrecognizable, ever shifting, with a will and volition
not mine to know;

Still another corner of awareness takes shape in a startling
configuration of its own, and I, trembling witness to this
rearrangement, sense the breath of galaxies moving
through marrow, fractures glowing with unfamiliar light,
old certainties dissolving into dust that still shimmers;

Here in the rupture, a rhythm insists itself, not the drum
I once followed, but something older, a pulse that remembers
rivers before their beds, stars before their fire, voices
before the need for names, and I lean into this uncharted expanse
not to conquer, not to bind, but to let the unmaking of me
be a vessel wide enough to hold what breaks into being.
