Drip, drip, drip, the rains come
and drop from the ends of ti leaves
scorched yellow by ceaseless sun
even during this Hawaiian winter
while the rest of the country lies
deeply buried in drifts of snow
or snarled in turbulence
of another sort;
Drip, drip, drip and I count precious
beads of moisture, one per second,
and reflect how it is that by morning
the ground will be soaked through,
roots nourished, new growth pushing
out from centers of petioles;
One drop per second, 86,400 in a day,
and if the rain can manage it,
we might well take its lead
and spread love, one act
of kindness at a time, moment
by moment, day upon day in
this parched and thirsty world.

Love the last verse Bala! Let us bring kindness, drop by drop, to a parched and thirsty word. 🙏
Thanks, Val. Truly. It is badly needed – so much suffering out there. Aloha <3
Beautiful words and thoughts; as always!
Many thanks, Paul. <3
great post and words….
Mahalo, mihrank. 🙏🏽
Yes, if the rain can manage to effect change, so can we! I love this, Bela. Great metaphor. (And some lovely images besides.) ❤️💕
Mahalo, Betty. Yes, we ‘can.’ The question is ever, ‘Will we?’ In these especially dark times, I truly hope so. At the very least, we can manage our small selves as we move through our day to day lives. Aloha sweetie. <3
Every kind act counts. I used to think that all we needed was a critical mass of evolved humanity, but now I’m thinking that’s not near enough…alas! But my hopes are up that maybe the tide is turning – to mix metaphors. 😊💕
It IS not near enough, I agree. But we do have power over our own actions and isn’t it criminal if we squander that freedom? I think many keep expecting politicians to redeem this mess we’ve gotten our collective selves into, but in fact it comes back down to the fact that we can only redeem ourselves in whatever ways we feel compelled toward. And so we act. So that we can sleep at night. So that at the end of our lives we can say yes, we did something that changed someone’s life for the better. Thanks for your comments, Betty! <3
I totally agree, Bela. Thank YOU! ❤️
I love the colours of the image – pink and green which are also the colours of the Heart Chakra. I love the message in the third stanza which reflects and harmonizes with the image. Bela, your message is beautifully and powerfully expressed.
Aloha Marie, the flower pictured is from the Philippines and called Mussaenda. It lives in our side yard 😉
Glad you enjoyed the poem, sweet Marie, and glad you appreciated the message as well. It’s one I have to remind myself is important, not just because it’s in my nature. Since I’ve realized we can likely never expect to ‘change the world,’ I’m satisfied in lowering my expectations of humanity and flowing (even further) into acceptance of What Is. It allows me to appreciate individual random acts of kindness (and value them) much more.
Here’s a big hug from your heart chakra to mine. Always possible from a distance! 😀 Love <3
It is such a shame that with all our best intentions that we cannot ‘change the world’ sweet Bela, but at least the little that we can do, goes someway to healing the world – better than doing nothing at all!
Thanks for the love – much needed and appreciated. ❤❤
Exactly. We do what we can, and know that’s enough. <3
Beautifully written.. Rain so essential, each drop so precious, especially when the land is parched dry.
The earth needs its soaking of love, and we keep trying Bela, drop by drop we try.. <3
